First Legs of the Motorcycle Ice Race Championship
On February 2-3, Krasnogorsk hosted the first two legs of the final series of the Motorcycle Ice Race Individual Championship 2013. Daniil Ivanov became the undisputed Red Bull leader.
Nikolai Krasnikov, former favourite and 8-times world champion, absent, Daniil Ivanov is considered to be the most promising rider, winning silver in 2012. Competition had been tough though. During the first day Ivanov scored maximum points – 21 (winning all knockout heats, as well as semi-finals and finals); Sunday, however, was not so easy – he was second in one of the knockout heats and semi-finals. The final heat was also a lame start for Daniil, who lagged third at first. Nonetheless, in two rounds he outpaced Dmitry Khomitsevich and Dmitry Koltakov, writhing victory out of their hands in the final. In general, Russian sportsmen’ supremacy was beyond doubt. Our riders occupied the first eight positions in total points. The best among the foreigners was Harald Simon (Austria) – 17 points. The second series (Grand Prix 3 and 4) shall be held in Tolyatti, on February 9-10, 2013, moving abroad afterwards. GP-5 and GP-6 are scheduled for March 9-10 in Assen (The Netherlands); GP-7 and GP-8 – for March 16-17 in Inzell (Germany). The final battle is to unfold in Upsala (Sweden) on March 23-24.
