The winner family: Vic Wild and Alena Zavarzina
Vic Wild and Alena Zavarzina are the happily-married Olympic couple of snowboarders. A 28-year-old American-born snowboarder Wild became a Russian citizen only 2 years ago, when his relationship with a 25-year-old sportsman from Novosibirsk Alena Zavarzina became really serious. The newly made Russian has won gold at the Sochi Olympics. A Swiss snowboarder Nevin Galmarini was his main competitor at the finals, but Wild defeated him after the first round. Right before her husband’s victory, Alena Zavarzina also had won the bronze medal. Although she was not able to operate at her full force because of an arm fracture, the Russian snowboarder beat Austrian competitor Ina Meschik in the petite final. The gold medal went to a Swiss snowboarder Patrizia Kummer, who defeated Japanese sportsman Tomoka Takeuchi.
